Re: A Mother Is...

Thinking of my mother who
passed away on March 25th.

We miss her every day. The
holidays won't be the same
this year...

A Mother is always there
when you need a helping hand;
To love you and to guide you,
to forgive and understand.

A Mother is always there
with her arms open wide,
when you need somewhere to go,
or a safe place to hide.

A Mother's love is unconditional,
in the strongest storm it does not bend;
It's powers are unmatched,
the deepest wounds it can mend.

She is the one true keeper
of truth, strength, and love.
A Mother is a gift
from Heaven up above.

A Boy Needs a Grandpa

A Boy Needs A Grandpa

A boy needs a Grandpa…
For man-to-man talks,
To go hand in hand
On companionable walks,

To fix up his toys
When they no longer go,
To tell him the things
Little boys want to know.

A boy needs a Grandpa…
To show him the way
To handle a puppy,
To teach him fair play.

To impart bits of wisdom
He’s learned through the years,
That it’s no disgrace
For a man to shed tears.

A boy needs a Grandpa…
To sit on his lap
And if no one is looking,
They take a wee nap,

Each wrapped in an aura
Of love and esteem,
Each smiling gently
At some special dream.

Re: Missing You, Mom

Thank you for the gift of love,
now you're sharing it up above.
You had many things to say.
All in a caring way.
You always saw good in everyone,
No matter what they've done.
You were always the one we could all lean on.
Even though it must have felt like a ton.
You were always the strength of the family.
Now we must let you rest calmly.
As we say goodbye,
as tears roll down our eyes.
I know your place in heaven has a good view.
Because you're telling God,
I need to keep an eye on a few.
I know you will always be in our hearts and mind.
So Grandma,
I must go, but I'll never forget you're one of a kind.

Happy Fourth of July

ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR

It's that time of the year
for the red white and blue
They stand for freedom
in all you say and do

Show off those colors
for all the world to see
Fly them proudly over
the air the land and sea

We celebrate the birth
of our blessed country
It surely is indeed
the land of the free

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

What Makes A Mother...

I thought of you all, I closed my eyes
and prayed to God today.
I asked what makes a Mother
and I know I heard him say,

"A Mother has a baby.
This we know is true."
But God can you be a Mother
when your baby's not with you?

"Yes you can!" He replied
with confidence in His voice,
"I give many women babies,
when they leave is not their choice."

"Some I send for a lifetime
and others for a day.
And some I send to feel your womb
but there's no need to stay."

"I just don't understand this God,
I want my baby here."
He took a deep breath and cleared His throat
and then I saw a tear.

"I wish I could show you
what your child is doing today.
If you could see your child smile
with other children and say.."

"We go to earth to learn our lessons
of love and life and fear.
My mommy loved me oh so much
I got to come straight here."

"I feel so lucky to have a Mom
who has so much love for me
I learned my lesson very quick
My Mommy set me free."

"I miss My Mommy oh so much
but I visit her each day.
When she goes to sleep
on her pillow's where I lay."

"I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek
and whisper in her ear,
Mommy don't be sad today
I'm your baby and I'm here."

"So you see my dear sweet one,
your children are OK.
Your babies are here in my home
and this is where they'll stay."

"They'll wait for you with me
until your lesson is through.
And on the day that you come home
they'll be at the gates for you."

"So now you see what makes a Mother.
It's the feeling in your heart.
It's the love you had so much of
right from the very start."

"Though some on earth may not realize
that you are a Mother until there time is done
They'll be up here with me one day
and know you're the best one."

Re: Violet

Our newest granddaughter
will be born toward the end
of October. She is going
to be named Violet. Below
is the origin and meaning of
her name.

The girl's name Violet \vi(o)-let\ is pronounced VYE-a-let. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "purple". One of the earliest flower names, first used in the 1830s. Shakespeare used the Latin form Viola for the enterprising heroine in "Twelfth Night".

Pierrot Clowns

According to Wikipedia,
The French version of the
character was fashioned by
Jean-Gaspard Deburau (1796-1846)
He is the protagonist of the famous
French folk song, "Au Clair de la
Lune"

I just recently inherited these
clowns from my mother's doll
collection. I started researching
about the Pierrot Clowns and found
out that they had a very interesting
history...

Re: A Prayer for Mothers

Dear Lord,
today we pray for mothers--
our own mothers, and mothers everywhere,
who have made such a major contribution
to the good qualities we have,
sometimes through genetics,
more often through great effort and patient instruction,
and who have done their best
to gently polish away our rough edges.
Lord, please bless our mothers
for the endless hours of time they spent
and the boundless energy they invested in us.
Bless our mothers for their sacrifices on our behalf
as they often gave up or deferred their own dreams
so that we could have ours.
Bless our mothers for always being there for us,
for being the person we know we can turn to
when we need comfort, encouragement, or just a hug.
Bless our mothers for making a home for us
where we could feel safe, where we felt we belonged.
Most of all, Lord,
bless our mothers for their unconditional love,
for loving us no matter what,
and for frequently showing love
in ways that make us feel valued and cherished.
Lord, please bless our mothers mightily.
Strengthen them, soothe them,
wrap them in Your infinite love
and shower them with blessings
too numerous to count, too magnificent to describe.
We love them, admire them, respect them,
and we wish that You would give them back
many times the good they gave to us.
In Jesus' name we pray; Amen.

Re: Incomparable Mom

A Sonnet for My Incomparable Mother

I often contemplate my childhood, Mom.
I am a mother now, and so I know
Hard work is mixed together with the fun;
You learned that when you raised me long ago.

I think of all the things you gave to me:
Sacrifice, devotion, love and tears,
Your heart, your mind, your energy and soul--
All these you spent on me throughout the years.

You loved me with a never-failing love
You gave me strength and sweet security,
And then you did the hardest thing of all:
You let me separate and set me free.

Every day, I try my best to be
A mother like the mom you were to me.

Re: Dolls

JUST ONE DOLL

If you could only keep one doll
Of all the dolls you own,
If only one doll would become
The last doll in your home,
Which doll would you give favor to,
Which one would your heart choose?
Would it be the prettiest,
Or the oldest and most used?

Or would it be the doll you got
As a little girl,
The one with teeth and big, brown eyes
And long,dark tendrilled curls?
Or would it be the homely one
That set you back a bit,
The doll whose straw is breaking through
Her legs,where seams are split?

Or would it be that German doll
With soulful eyes of blue,
Born at the turn of the century
And born to be with you?
The doll you found at that estate,
Forced to liquidate,
By events beyond control,
The one you couldn’t wait
To carry home,to treasure,own,
The one with flaxen curls,
The doll your heart had longed for so,
In vain, when just a little girl?

Or would it be the little boy
From 80 years ago,
From your dear Aunt, the one you can’t
Ever wait to show
To company?…Or would it be
The rubber baby doll
Your children played with years ago?

Why can’t you keep them all?
You look at each and everyone,
Some,gifts from those you love,
And your sad heart cannot decide
Which one to place above
The rest of them…Each one has been
So special to your heart;
But the time to let them go
Has come and you must part
With all but one…It must be done
Before the day is through;

I wonder which doll you would pick
From dolls so dear to you?

To Our Mom

To Our Mom…

Mom, we miss you so very much
On every Mother’s Day;
And not just then, but every minute,
Since you went away.

You were the center of our lives
Before your soul passed on;
It’s just so hard for us to believe
That you are really gone.

But we celebrate the life you lived
And all the things you gave us;
Our wonderful memories, Mom, of you
Are the things that will comfort and save us.

Please think of us, as we think of you
With hearts so full of love;
We’re looking up at you, sweet Mom,
As you look at us from above.

We Will Always Love You...

Forever in our Hearts

A million times we needed you,
A million times we cried,
If love alone would have saved you,
You would of never died.

In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still,
In our hearts you hold a place,
No one can ever fill.

A light from our household is gone,
A voice from our love is stilled,
A place in our vacant home,
Which never can be filled.

Some may think you are forgotten,
Though on earth you are no more,
But in our memory you are with us,
As you always were before.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
A part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Your precious memories are for keepsakes,
with which we never part,
God has you safely in his keeping,
But we have you forever in our hearts

Happy Easter

The Easter Story
Jesus came to compensate
For all the wrongs we do.
He came to earth to die for us,
So we’d be born anew.
"This bitter cup, let it pass from me,"
He cried, in a plaintive voice;
"Yet not My will, but Thine be done;"
He said, in His faithful choice.
The Judas kiss would seal his fate;
He faced a hostile crowd;
The governor, Pilate, saw through it all;
Jesus’ guilt he disavowed.
"I wash my hands of all of this,"
Said Pilate, "Let Him be."
But the crowd yelled "Crucify him now,
And set Barabbas free!"
Pilate yielded to their wish;
And Jesus was led away.
The soldiers beat him, and mocked Him, too,
Yet He continued to obey.
A crown of thorns lay on His head,
As His sentence was carried out;
His hands and feet were pierced with nails,
But He did not scream or shout.
"Father, forgive them for this crime;
They know not what they do."
He said this despite His torment, because,
He was thinking of me and you.
"It is finished," he sighed in His anguish and pain,
As His body gave up to death.
The curtain tore, and darkness fell,
After He took His last breath.
The best of the story is the very last part;
It’s why on Easter we’re filled with pleasure:
Death could not our Savior hold;
His power is beyond all measure.
He rose from the grave, and was seen all around;
Ever since, He’s inspired devotion,
And we’ll be with Him for eternity,
When we get our heavenly promotion.
That’s why Easter is a major event:
He suffered and died in our place.
He rose and forgave us and loves us still,
Our Savior of matchless grace.

Eulogy to a Special Mom

Life Is…

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord
